This piece was titled Chrysanthemums? . I began with a flat wash of light pink over wherever flowers were mapped out. Gradually, I layered darker accents of pinks and maroons where I saw fit. Sgraffito became my primary focus with adding details to the flower petals on three layers. After trying to brighten the whites of the petals, I wet lifted the paint to make it lighter. Dabbing the yellows of the flowers and adding the spots finished the flowers. Once everything was set in place, I added the contrasting, vibrant green leaves to the piece. All that was left was to finish with the flower pot and the cast shadow! The subject matter are beautiful Alstroemeria flowers from a bird's eye perspective. In this piece, I wanted to capture the focal point of the main three petals. The flowers ended up being random but they had a certain balance to them in the end. You can see the form of the petals from the brush strokes. I made sure to emphasize that detail. With it being a bird’s eye perspective, I wanted to pay attention to the details of perspective and making sure everything was proportionate.I’ve always found a liking to pink flowers. My mother is a huge inspiration to me. I’ve grown up with flowers always around the house. Alstroemeria have always been my favorite besides hydrangea!
