The title of this piece is Young Forever. Here we have a a boy holding a balloon at night in front of a carousel. One of the favorite aspects of this painting is the drastic contrast of the background and the lights on the carousel. I used a hefty amount of TLC to emphasize the lights to give off a glow affect. Even though sometimes the brush strokes get lost, I made sure to form the shapes of each surface. Shading is key in this painting. To maintain the bright lights, I really had to be comfortable with adding the darker tones to contrast. I honestly love how rough and scratchy the watercolor gives. There's a certain nostalgia that I feel when looking at carousels. It's an eerie peace that comes over me. I tried to convey that when making this piece. I wanted to depict what it would be like to look a single snap shot of a memory.
