The title for this piece is Honey Dewdrops and Sunflower Swirls! I have been experimenting with making more 'cute' type style! Bumble bees and sunflowers are a perfect way to go! Sunflowers have recently found their way onto my favorite flowers list! Playing with the different grounds was a challenge for this piece. I wanted the foreground to really stand out so I carved harsher lines into the plexiglass. I was worried while printing the last couple that I didn't carve the background sunflowers enough! (But that's probably compared to how much I etched the foreground I felt that way.) Line art has never really been my most favorite technique in the world but the use of line in this project grows with each petal I made! The way the lines shaped together give this volume to the picture despite it being two-dimensional. Making the proportions of the flowers to match the ground they were in was difficult for my hand to etch. After a while my hand didn't want to work anymore and almost felt compelled to make the same size flower everywhere. I wanted to convey a sense of warmth with this piece. Sunflowers always follow the sun. Maybe we can learn to be like sunflowers and follow the sunshine of optimism. With my creative prints, I went for a pop art style! When I was little, I didn't understand why pop art was such a popular style. Now that I'm older, it has grown on me substantially and I use high saturated colors in most of my sketchbooks!
