The title of this piece is, Lumberhenry. The model is actually my brother! I wanted a challenge, but a fun challenge. Using coffee as a medium was exactly that challenge! I found out that it was actually working a lot like watercolor! I got the idea of using this media from other artists online. The two most difficult tasks were layering and making sure that the form resembled what it was supposed to. The darkest parts, the hair and the shadows, are what took me the most time. Painting the beard was my favorite part! It looks like it would've been tedious to complete and it was. But that was the fun of it! I love working with portraits. Creating the shadows and taking up the original wash to add in highlights is what I live for. I bet Van Gogh would be jealous of that ear I painted! (I'm sorry that was an awful joke) Through and through, I hope my brother enjoys the piece I made for him. Maybe he'll frame it and hang it over his fireplace!
